I almost commented on this before, but can't resist now.

For sure there is no release of energy. Energy is transferred from the liquid water to the LNG. This is not a release of energy. It takes energy to regassify the LNG. I would think that the water at the surface would freeze in the presence of the LNG, and thereby impede further heat transfer. You would get a puddle of LNG on top of a frozen river.

You can do all the modeling in the world about an LNG tanker explosion and I would never be convinced that it is accurate within three orders of magnitude. I don't think the issue will be settled until they anchor a full LNG tanker 20 miles off the coast and hit it with a rocket propelled grenade. I would bet on a Vonnegut like Ice ( transition rather than a mushroom cloud.

As far as picking on Peter V goes - it wasn't he who wrote that. It was a fruitcake, Enviro Nazi Terrorist from California who knows nothing about thermodynamics and wants the world to return granola cruching and wearing animal skin loin cloths.
