Hi pogo, good thing you showed up, i was thinking of your very interesting take on things while typing that ... Smith wrote and thought a lot more on money than that bit, he got into roman history of it among other things, and his basic principles seem to me credible - they boil down to the fact that trust in those who issue 'money' has most often, if not always, been misguided ... 'kings and princes have by various degrees diminished the quantity of metal in their coins', from memory ... ah but you can't fool an assayer with a working balance scale

What does Zarlenga give as evidence/logic to back up whatever proposal he has? ... haven't read his book, all his site does is give a few hints while advertising it ... central issue is that of trust - has to be addressed, 'full faith and credit' don't cut it, to we do not easily hand out faith nor credit
