Crucial metal to an industrial society, most uses of silver are consumptive, that's why there are no above ground stocks to speak of, certainly when compared to those of gold ... where there were huge stocks held by US gubmint and others when the Hunt Bros tried their thing years ago ... different situation how, it's quite an inelastic supply [most silver comes as byproduct of Zn/Pb mining], and consumption has for years exceeded mine supply, eventually recycling and scrap will fail to make up the balance, then there's just 'paper silver' to buy, but you cannot make a functional teaspoon out of it
