My links are pretty clear. The original vision was that there would be state militias that would be the bedrock of defending the country and the last line of defense against a central government run amok. That didn't work out. Wasn't the only idea they had that didn't. Those things happen. To be clear, this argument in this forum is silly when contrasted with the argument the Court actually heard and ruled upon. Mr. Gura, who made the argument before the Court, is among the most intelligent persons I've ever known. He would, no doubt, have a laugh were he reading this thread. So, perhaps the best thing to do is to refer you to his argument and explanation, since it is now the law of the land. gurapossessky.com
