i read about a123, a start-up, on wikipedia.org. good stuff, and this is the company and the type of lithium ion or lithium phosphate battery general motors is evaluating and trying to design into its new volt passenger car. the problem with the battery as the head gm honcho said on cnbc a few days ago is the battery in the volt still has "thermal events," i.e., catches on fire in the heat just as notebook computer lithium ion batteries can catch fire in the heat without sufficient ventilation. the gm man said they are assuming the fire problem is going to be solved by the 2010 intro date.
