That's your biased perception. Both were "war heros" just for going. Getting shot down is not an accomplishment.

It is about character.

McCain's character is not in question; Kerry's is.

Kerry served honorably, then came home and disparaged his fellow soldiers. McCain served honorably, then came home and has consistently honored the military in which he served. You see the difference?

I agree, which is why I called the attacks on both men "smears."

However, Kerry is the man who has an anti-war past to hide. Of course you don't have a problem with it, but many people do.

I believe that had Kerry been true to the ideals he wrote in his own book, The New Soldier, the attacks from the Swifties would have fizzled out. Of course, Kerry would have had other problems to deal with, but hey, most of the country isn't as accomodating to the Hanoi Janes and the medal-tossing veterans as Berkeley, CA.
