I had a Raleigh 3 speed with Sturmey-Archer gears and envied people with Schwinns because they had nice fat tires and no change of the gears derailing, and I hated the hand brakes, too. Also, it was brown. And the pedals had spikes.

I longed for the easy, breezy, carefree, pastel laid back Schwinn lifestyle, rather than the hypertechnical, fussy, competitive Raleigh lifestyle.

But where we lived was very, very flat, no need for gears at all.

Now I have an extremely expensive mountain bike with more gears than I can remember (18? 30?) and I never, ever ride it.

Probably should get a Schwinn. A nice, simple, fat tired Schwinn, and put a basket on the front, and some plastic streamers on the handles.

Or maybe a Vespa. Not sure whether one can wear a skirt on a Vespa?
