Believe that's in nominal dollars. Factor in inflation and the loss has been humongous.

i see oyster pointed out the inflation aspect, i would add opportunity cost, time value of money, and you would be sitting on loss

50 years ago a middle class husband could support a stay at home wife and family whereas 2 incomes are often required now, but I think it's more a matter of consumption than inflation.
