We judge how far away a vehicle is mainly by its apparent size. The smaller the farther away. A bike's cross section is much smaller than a car. Unless we make a conscious adjustment, our brains which are calibrated to a car's size will tell us a bike is farther away than it really is.

Anyway that's my theory about why drivers so often pull out in front of bikes.

Riders like that don't last too long, that's just begging to be hit.... I either pass or lag behind anything else is just foolish. Cars doing the same thing is almost as bad...
