Friend of mine lived and went to law school in Maine. Her landlord was an old Mainer. She asked him, "I know no matter how long I live here, I'll never be considered a Mainer, but what about my kids, if they're born here?"

After a pause, the guy responded, in the best Down East accent,

"Just b'cause a cat has kittens in the oven don't make 'em muffins."

Yeah, I had a "Native" sticker on my car for years. Not a license plate (not sure they exist). When I got a new car, the Native sticker went with the old one and I never replaced it. I still see a lot of them. Vanity plates are big these days.
