I know permethrin will weaken the immune system of insects, especially bees. It dates from 1973 just about the time this phenom started.

Where would the Bees have found all this permethrin? Perhaps it is a nicotinoid.

It could also be a retro virus that weakens the bees immune system. Most animals' immune system are not affected retro virii, but bees may be an exception.

Mice, rats fish, birds and aquatic insects in the same area may be affected. Permethrins cause gulf war syndrome symptoms in humans in high dosages.

I know that BT thuringensis is a fave forest spray of governments and it has been dispensed also from the 70s. It is a gut killer and may weaken insect immune system and its resistance to parasites and fungus.

Bees love water. They are always found near rivers and streams. They may be getting some chemical floating on the water. It is known that permethrins will kill water borne insects and is found in fish copiously. It is also true that cert herbicides float on the water microlayer. Increasingly farmers are treating their crops in this way. I would look at this cause and map the bee CCD with respect to up drainage pesiticide and herbicide usage.

Permethrin would also explain why moths won't go near the colony for a while. Permethrin has a half life of 7 days.
