I mostly agree with your points, but I also think, that Numonyx
is searching for some type of "stuff", which "buys" them a path
to future nodes. As said a 1000 times, floating gate is in its
final stage and we could see at the NAND guys, that its very
difficult and COSTLY!!! to shrink existing designs even further
under (very) good yields. So, my understanding is, that PCM is
one choice for Numonyx to walk away from floating gate in the
next (near?) future. If this is a wise move - we will see, but better
to have an option instead of running "out of gas" ... if PCM
is all what Numonyx could bring on the table - I think we could
say good bye to them sometimes in the future.

Not exactly a viable strategy, to pour massive amounts of money into a product while looking for an application it might fit.
