Ayres is probably a nice liberal guy now. The fact that he should have served jail time is not obamas fault. There are plenty of folks who did some time who have changed their ways. And as John pointed out, his answer in the NYT article had more to do with regret of the the tens of thousands who died after LBJ realized the war was futile and then nixon determined it was better to save face than leave too quick. I understand nixons point but LBJ not starting the departure process sooner makes me ill to this day.
