The technology is already being used in limited applications. Specifically I saw a show about some huge warehouse that had a high traffic of small vehicles and a combustion engine related pollution problem because of the confined space. They since converted to all air powered vehicles, but of course the big benefit to them was probably the elimination of the noise and pollution and not any efficiency gains.

Edit: Ahh yes, I see now that Engine Air has a contract with the Melbourne Wholesale Fruit & Vegetable Market. I'd guess that the show that I saw was about that place...
