The Islamic Jihadists run more of a total war approach than The West who try to minimize collateral damage and civilian harm. Islamic Jihad will murder anyone who opposes them. They don't go along with that free speech, diverse opinion, ideology. Bingo! We could prevail using the French model used to defeat the tribes in Morocco and Algiers, but America no longer has the stomach for that kind of brutal warfare.

It's opposition to conquerors and what were called collaborators in World War II France. The difference being that we aren't conquerors, we didn't take over half the country to rule ourselves, and put the other half under a puppet government. We deposed a totalitarian fundamentalist regime and allowed the people to elect their own new government. Well that's not the only difference, another is that the resistance in France didn't go around targeting concentrations of civilians for suicide bomber attacks.
