It's pure idle conjecture: <Are you using foresight or hindsight or just plain wishful thinking for all those "maybe's"?</>> Definitely hindsight as I wasn't around at the time.

But, it would have made a difference to history. Maybe a worse one, as the British Disease might have spread across North America too as it has done to some extent in Canada's socialism.

Africa, India and Pakistan couldn't have done any worse if they had kept Britain running their countries in the same way that Britain kept running New Zealand, Australia, Canada etc. Fiji is having a go at African-style politics and it's not looking good, but so far they have avoided the barbarisms. They are basically nice people who don't want a lot of carnage.

Look at Zimbabwe and South Africa for example as places which threw the British out, more's the pity. Check out all the others too. They didn't get freedom at all. They have got a lot less freedom than under British rule which involved details like habeas corpus, common law, and concepts like universality, human rights etc.

Electorally, women and the unlanded didn't get the vote in Britain until the 20th century and some time in the 19th. Until my time, those under 21 didn't get a vote either and a good idea that was, though I supported 18 year olds voting.

I'm more inclined to think people should be able to vote the amount of money they provide to government. No dollars, no vote. Voting to take OPM via taxation is the blight on democracy. People who don't produce have an incentive to take OPM via taxation and imposts on government-owned assets.

Africans got "freedom" to be slaves to Mugabe and swarms of other barbarians.
