"The North East has been run by democrat liberals for decades, where's their high speed mass transit ??"

The only high speed commuter rail we have is in the NE.

Your point?

I don't think there is high speed mass transit anywhere in the world. Most commuter rail goes slower than intercity rail, and to my knowledge, all high speed rail currently is made up of intercity trains. However there is high speed rail in the NE although its not really high speed by world standards.

Let me explain to you why US high speed rail is so slow by world standards. To have real high speed, you need a few things like seamless track, straight track, a clear right of way, track that doesn't cross roads at grade, etc. American rail unlike EU and Japanese rail was never rebuilt to those specs. Why? Because fugly and cheap GOPers wouldn't fork up the money. They wanted that money for their pork and their wars.

So then, Amtrak did what it considered to be second best.....they got a consortium of manufacturer's to come up with a train that could handle Amtrak's messy tracks at relatively high speeds. Then finally Bombardier agreed to build it. They called it the Acela Express. Its supposed to go up to 150 mph but it rarely gets that high because of the bad and curvy track with which Amtrak has to contend.

Bottom line: For the past 25 years, Amtrak has been starved by Congress; more specifically by shorted sighted GOPers. How its managed to survive all these years while growing ridership and improving service is nearly a miracle and a testament to the people who support train travel in this country.

You all should be ashamed but like with most of your screwups you really don't give a rat's ass!
