where I come from a "do gooder" is a good person. Just like calling a person a "bleeding heart liberal" as though that was terrible.

You're still confusing "do gooder" with a person that actually does good. My point is that it's people that think as you do that are actually growing the problems that they're trying to help. Therefore you as a liberal and you're fellow bleeding hearts are thinking with your heart and emotions instead of your brain doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, (the very definition of insanity). Conspicuously avoiding the results because the results don't fit in with their leftist ideology of how things work.

Just cause someone isn't walking around with their heart pinned to their sleeve doesn't mean that they can't feel compassion to their fellow man, as I do. But I'm not interested in seeing that big checks written in our tax payers blood going to projects that trap the poor and cause them to become dependent on big government just to give myself a warm fuzzy feeling that I threw money at the problem. Take the blind fold off...........

who fought to end slavery

Wasn't Lincoln a Republican? As were the Abolisionists who were also conservative to a man?

"do gooders" have made things more fair and easier for everyone.

This country was never set up with the intent of being "fair". You go and find me where the word "fair" is in our Constitution. Not only is it not there but the founding fathers were smart enough to leave it out.
