I am a yankee who is an avid Civil War buff. One of the great tragedies of recent times is the adaptation by some of the Confederate Battle Flag as a racist symbol. The details escape me now but some prominent politician quit something when this started to happen. If you want to start an interesting debate - was Robert E Lee a great American? Another recent event had to do with Democratic Senator Webb of Virginia who spoke about his Confederate officer ancestors. politico.com PC has run amuk.
