TH,
OT:
I've always thought a possible solution to the long distance battery car is to have an SAE design standard for quick-change battery packs that would work in any car, regardless of make. The new infrastructure would consist of "filling stations" that kept racks of charged packs, ready to switch out in just a few minutes. Similar to the BBQ propane tank exchanges. An attendant w/ a small pallet jack or forklift would make the swap in just a few minutes.

I know, too futuristic, too out-of-the-box. Just a freebie idea for all those soon-to-be-out-of-work automotive engineers w/ a lot of time on their hands.
