"With the talk about reinstating the 55 MPH speed limit, I'm sure we'll have the chance once again to conserve our way out of this next crisis."

Conservation was just the initial response. And, it helped. We went from 8 million barrels a day to 6 mbd over the whole Carter administration. And the solar industry was a billion dollar a year industry. Of course, after Reagan shut down the programs, solar dropped to a few million a year and has only recently recovered. With other countries in the lead now...

You must be proud.

You can, just like harris, pretend that it was only about conservation. It wasn't. But, don't let the facts get in the way of your fantasies.

Consider this, though. What if the Saudi royals woke up dead one morning and the mullahs were in control? The outcome would likely be similar to what happened when the mullahs took over Iran. Iranian production was off market for a while. There is no reason to suspect that SA production would fare any better.

This isn't impossible or even particularly unlikely. SA is full of Saudis who hate the royals. Osama is hardly unique.
