i thought the problem with india is its tight protection controls making it difficult to do business in the country. If India opened up its country to foreign investment things could change.

I agree with that. But India is not the world. The beauty of emrging markets today is that we have:

--Russia energy technology

--India IT

--Brazil Minerals and Agriculture

--China manufacturing

It is a planetary conglomerate. Individually they don't count. As major force, it has critical mass. Keep in mind the scale.
