My Dad's ship was the USS Northampton, the lead ship of her class. He was a Marine, a gun pointer on a five inch gun, and the Admiral's aide. She was at sea on December 7th and so escaped being sunk at Pearl. Dad was ordered to recruiting duty before the attack. He was not on her when she was sunk in the Battle of Tassafaronga.
