I didn't say that Silicon Valley was government planned. Again you miss the point. Copious studies have been made of Silicon Valley to understand what the secret sauce of that region's success is. Most credible studies come to the same conclusion: that the secret sauce is a synergistic union of government, academia, and industry. When you have all three institutions pulling together, market forces are unleashed that can unlock incredible wealth.

But aren't you arguing for government planning of alternative energy, a national electrical storage system? And for the federal government spending billions to achieve breakthroughs?

I think governments input to Silicon Valley is that they funded defense and space programs that produced unanticipated technological breakthroughs that private capitalists literally capitalized on. The defense and space programs that produced breakthroughs in micro-electronics and internet communications didn't come from a national plan to develop and launch new industries. And it didn't take long till the research all became private. The government defense and space launched breakthroughs but once private companies had found commercial uses they took over the research and developed it much farther.
