You know, your Dad is just as much of a hero as anyone in the service during WWII, whether they saw combat, got washed out for one reason or another, performed some heroic act, or whatever.

Every last one of them did what was required. They were all at risk, and the sum total of all their effort saved the world.

My Dad was in the Marines from 1938 to 1946, served on a heavy cruiser, served in Pearl Harbor, served on a Mitchell Bomber as a Navigator/bombardier, served as a recruiter, a weather man, and probably things I don't even know about. He never saw a day of combat in all that time. The war was over before his aviation unit had to fly into Japan. I'm glad for that.
