In fact, the only time I mentioned conservation is because you, like harris, are pretending that is the only thing that the Carter energy plan was about. Cheap energy certainly helped. But what drove the growth was rise in productivity because of the elimination of middle management and replacing them with computerized systems. The long delayed investments in infrastructure didn't hurt either. Business bonds had been crowded out of the market since the early 1970s due to the need to sell bonds to cover the deficit. Don't the teach economics any more? "Which IMO isn't really a crisis at all, except when it comes to getting Democrats elected." You've got to be kidding. $140+ a barrel oil is not a crisis? What universe are you living in? Have you been to the supermarket lately? Read the labels? Food manufacturers are starting to downsize the contents of containers. They may be selling for the same price as last year, but where you got two quarts in a ice cream container, you might only get 1.5 now. Cereal manufacturers have either raised prices, cut the amount per container, or both. Even canned vegetables. "but a lot of his prognostications turned out to be flat wrong." How did the idea of dependence on foreign energy as a national security risk turn out to be wrong? Here we are, funding our announced enemies to the tune of $140+ a barrel oil. Your thinking is really screwed up. "It's useless to bring them back now and say "coulda shoulda woulda," not to mention really chickens--t of you to blame Republicans for not reinstating them." Oh, right. It is chickenshit to point out where a screw up happened. I keep forgetting, Republicans never do that. They just find someone else to blame....
