It also has a lot of positive aspects. For example, it's instructive to others such as President Amendiejihad of Iran what can happen if they get too carried away with their megalomania. China will be mindful that the USA has not yet lost the lust for bombing and militarism and isn't simply spending umpty mega$billions for the fun of it and to line the pockets of Halliburton and entertain boys with big toys which go bang [which of course is a LOT of fun]. It keeps the USA military tuned up with live action with real weaponry. It's a great testing ground for all sorts of military equipment and management practises. Imagine getting that lot past the Resource Management Act in New Zealand or health and safety protection laws here or in the USA. Not a chance!! USA GDP = $13 trillion. War in Iraq = not even $1 trillion a year. A real war involves SERIOUS commitment and casualties in the millions, not a tiny fraction of road accident death and injury. When Stalin beat Hitler, 4,000 were dead before breakfast. en.wikipedia.org Note that most of it was done before the USA decided to join in WWII [other than selling, lending, leasing, stuff to the combatants]. Thank goodness that Stalin saved our bacon. The USA never did thank him, I believe. If Germany had sent those Operation Barbarossa troops to confront my father in the middle-east and Africa, I'd have been in serious trouble. Hooray for General Petraeus. Big ups for King George II.
