I thought that took place in 2024 whereas "First Contact" was in 2063. In "First Contact" Cochrane said he built the warp ship for the money.

I don't see how riots in a government internment camp led to the elimination of capitalism as it is alive and well in 2063 when the Vulcans landed. Still had wars, billions were just killed in the Eastern alliance war that occurred 10 years earlier.
