That's correct, the way Congress has done this. Normally, in a defined benefit plan, you make contributions that are adequate to generate the desired benefit. In the case of SS, this wasn't done -- Congress said, "We want the benefit to be x and the contribution to be y, and we're not worried about whether the math works on a long-term basis". And in fact, it didn't and doesn't.

My objectivity has nothing to do with it. I'm not objective, I suppose, because I understand the problem. And frankly, the problem hasn't changed since before the restructure.
