LindyBill,

There is a doctor out there (I will try to find some links) who thinks that it is lack of Vitamin D that is behind the recent dramatic increase in autism. Other theories on the increase of autism were vaccination (with or without mercury) that shock the system.

This doctor says that around the time these vaccinations take place, children are switched from milk or formula (which have some vitamin D) to fruit juices, eliminating their only source of Vitamin D.

He suggests putting kids on Vitamin D supplement as soon as possible, before the brain is damaged too much.

Also, he says that Vitamin D toxicity is totally overblown. He says that Vitamin D is safer than water. The way he illustrates it is by example of saying that if you drink 10x the recommended amount of water, you can kill yourself. But if you take 10x the recommended amount of Vitamin D, you will be just fine. (By recommended amount, he does not mean 200 IU recommended by the government, but the amount he would recommend, which is some 4,000 IU).

He says that body's needs for Vitamin D increase under stress or upcoming illness, at which point he would increase the intake sharply. So when person is coming down with cold, he recommends 10s of thousands of IU for a few days.

I will try to find some links...

Joe
