There is a problem with his observation. English is a world language. French and German for instance are not. All pilots must speak English. It is the language in the air. The only reason the Europeans speak several languages is that they all live on the same continent. They had better learn the continental languages for trade and simple communication. The languages in Europe all developed together within the continent. Early Americans spoke several languages also. However, it became less necessary. If Obama wants progress let the kids in Chicago first learn English, graduate school and be less distracting to other students trying to learn. It isn't as if he has this cadre of brilliant minds to work with. Cage the animals and the students will learn. Fire bad teachers and it will help significantly. Give support to those teachers who need it and to hell with that teachers union who only care about themselves and students are a far cry from their goals.

Looks like Koan didn't learn much from us. Not that I thought he would, libs are very close minded "Well, I am a registerd democrat, so I qualify for this thread-lol. I have been roaming around the many political threads. Stopped posting on all of the conservative threads. I did for awhile, but it was only to try and understand their thinking. It was a painful experience-lol. The lack of understanding and anger I encountered was downright scary and hyperbole would be impossible in describing it. The conservative posters reminded me of the mind set of George Wallace, Strom Thurmond, Richard Nixon and Jesse Helms followers back in the 60's and all those people who spewed hate at the African American children trying to integrate the white schools. Even here, on a solidly progressive thread I do not feel comfortable expressing my private thinking of what I encountered except to say it was both scary and sad. As a species we simply cannot survive the 21st century and nuclear proliferation with right wing thinking." Message 24741631
