yes, and if you itemize as most high earners do, you are not making stuff up. It needs to be documented. And for itemized deductions the value of those deductions goes down as your gross goes up. I suffer thru this process every year. I take whats legal and i still pay 50% in a good year.

I didn't say he's making stuff up. Go back to the start of the exchange...i_node made a statement that a lawyer making 300K is going home with 90-100K after his taxes.

I gave him that he is self employed and doubled his payroll taxes and still showed that what he said is not true...and I didn't include any deductions...i just made oblique reference to them.

The guy hates SS and he is spinning bullshit.
