Economies of scale can get these cars down to under $30K, which would make them mass affordable.

Not yet, if your iMiev example was the best on the market (actually not even on the market yet), its supposed to be $37K.

Also while "under $30k", or for the right market even $37K would be affordable, I didn't say "they are unaffordable", I said they where more expensive.
