This is something that is usually not taken into consideration, but I heard a great example on a local radio show yesterday. (a liberal talk show at that) Fellow called in to complain that it had taken 21 months and over $130,000 in interest to the bank to obtain a permit from the city of Seattle for a straight forward townhouse duplex project. (four living spaces in all) Unfortunately for younger people that aren't able to spend more than $300 - $350 thou on a home in Seattle, the cost of each unit just went up by $30 thou apiece thanks to that delay and the ineptitude of government bureaucracy.
