I can't speak for John. I agree with him because that is what led to the mess in the 1970s and 1980s. We kept looking for creative ways out of the mess, which started to crop up in the 1960s, but things just got worse. Finally, we were left with Volcker's policies to fix the problems.

I'd like to avoid that this time around. Which is why I've been screaming about the situation here for years.

But, hey. Deficits don't matter...

The sad, sorry fact of the matter is deficits do matter. Now, you can push them off for a while when there is a solid, economic foundation on which to build. And the deficits can be a great stimulus as first Kennedy and later Reagan proved. But, if you don't address the deficits when the economy is good, you are crippled when the chickens come home to roost.
