What Addington was doing was trying to weasel out of answering questions by pulling the mantel of "national security" over him. It reminds me of a guy I interviewed one time. Every time I asked specifically what he did in his previous jobs, he would start spinning about "black projects" and "can't discuss". Now, I wasn't asking what his projects were, just what his tasks were. Languages used, that sort of thing. He wanted us to hire him with no idea if he could actually perform the job we needed him to do.

It was stupid.

This administration, like many before, is trying to use the "national security" card to get them out of any scrutiny at all. We are expected to take their word for everything with no proof at all. While Delahunt was inartful, he had a point.
