FNM and FRE have little to do with the twin deficits. Its the war and pork.

They sure do if we bail them out.

This fatalistic thinking where we have to be severely punished for past mistakes stems from your early religious[?] upbringing. Purge it.......it does nothing for anyone. Its time to think outside the box and get out of this mess.

It's not 'past mistakes', it's current mistakes. Debt has to be paid... get over it. I wasn't brought up to think that you can run up unlimited future debt to solve todays problems without consequences.

FNM and FRE are in trouble because of the subprime debacle.......that's not current; its in the past. Its a huge screwup.....I agree. But its time to solve the mess rather than to keep punishing ourselves for it.

Piling more debt on top of the debt that is causing the problem is NOT "thinking outside the box" it's the inside the box thinking that got us in this mess.

Thinking inside the box is when you can't prioritize what you will sacrifice and what you won't. A smart person who is in financial trouble will let go his boat; his club memberships, his second car, his leisure activities etc before he let's go of his house. Congress can cut many other things that are less important before it cuts FNM and FRE. Cutting them would be like cutting your nose to spite you face. Very stupid!
