We could import lots more from Canada. Environmentalists are fighting new pipelines with everything they've got.

i agree. just look at what level current refineries are presently running at , we excess production available right now. Refineries are losing money right now. horrors. let's build another loser that will take x years to build and how long to pay out?????????????????? i do not see international oil companies or domestic complaining about refinery capacity or wanting to build a new refinery.

The reason we have 3X as much refinery capacity as crude oil production probably is due to the fact that gasoline is a very volatile substance and not easily transportable by ship.

I think when the common lay person tries to interject himself in the middle of complicated industries, the lay person makes a lot of conjectures, mistakes, etc.

EG Nancy Pelosi is saying Oil Companies should drill where they have existing leases rather than request new leases where their geologists have recommended.

Sen. Reid is saying that Oil makes us sick and therefore we should try to avoid it.

You're suggesting that our refineries refine mostly imported oil therefore we have no need to increase capacity.

More likely decisions relating to gasoline manufacture and distribution should be left to experts in the industry rather than politicians or lay people.

Imagine if Sen. Reid and Rep. Pelosi, you and I formed a committee to design the next generation IPhone.
