Fred, you are spot on, the common shares of FNM and FRE are worthless, but their debt bought on the cheap, is a more rational thing to be buying.

The powers that be really ought to make it mandatory that investors all buy a convertible bond and get a grasp off the senior of obligation scale which exists before they let people run out and buy equities.

Kind of like taking a drivers education course prior to getting a drivers license!!!!!!
