We just had this big hurricane in the gulf and with so many rigs damaged they lost very little oil - read no big environmental disasters. The oil companies have gotten pretty good at keeping the water clean - of course we always need to keep an eye on them - no one is suggesting we just let them make a mess. Think of the new jobs this economy could gain by the exploration and development in areas never explored. Isn't this something we could use? All of this without spending tax dollars - these are for profit companies with apparently huge profits that could be plowed into job creation not socialist windfall profit taxes.
