Lindy, The problem is the opposition as represented by John McCain is not capable of exploiting the energy issue. Simply put the guy is nuts. He is for OCS drilling where people are and against drilling in ANWR where no one is or will be. We are talking crazy here. Throw in cap and trade - the only choice is between which fool is greater. I am disgusted. My answer is to buy gold shares - and it is working. Bob

The Dems just don't "get it"....If the US falters because of the gas mess, and all the other financial things that have been going on for decades, with a Democrat controlled Congress...they just won't recover for decades themselves. We just got back from Victoria, the capital of BC...usually since this is the height of tourist season, the shop keepers are happy....NO one that we visited seemed happy about our Government nor theirs....VERY few US cars up there this week....VERY VERY noticably quiet!!! All the antique dealers and restaurants we went into, had and said, they had much to fret about. Too quite. No tourists to speak of. The Government had just imposed a 2 1/2 cent PER each dollar tax on income for Carbon Tax!!! In addition to VAT, and their regular host of taxes....And THEY think they are better off than we are as far as taxes are concerned....!!! We found one of our business friends died a few months ago....misdiagnosis of a lung disease....totally was something else other than what she was being treated for (for the last 20 years!) Socialized medicine..... Americans had better wise up soon.... It's hard to avoid the inference that the Democrats want the economy to get worse, in the expectation that hardship will help their prospects in November.

One more thing...We saw quite a few "smart cars" this week in Canada....and many other small ones. Snipets from couple of discussions.... --Some of the folks seem to think that driving smaller cars with more mileage will help ... I asked four of them, how much energy their new cars took to manufacturer and market/sell their new small car? I ventured a guess that about half the cost of a new car, went to the manufacturer for direct cost of metal, parts and materials and machinery to manufacture their new cars.... None of the folks I asked about this, had ever given a thought as to the energy it took to produce their new little car. --Also, regarding battery run cars..... NONE of them really knew what energy sources were used to produce the electricity needed for these battery run cars. One lady said that NONE of her friends had given any thought about what to do with the car batteries once their shelf life of 8 or so years was over....Computers, TV's, cell phones, etc today have to be disposed of in special places.... Where does one put a BIG battery, and what does it do to the environment? Maybe the Greenies have a special place for these items in their back yards....eh?
