Benwood.

((Great Saturday morning blog by Russ))

Totally agree. One of his best IMO.

On the topic of Texas Ratios, the Globe & Mail had a great article in early June that discussed the Texas Ratio of Canada's major banks. The article can be accessed at the link below:

tdw.globeinvestor.com

Note the mention of IndyMac's Texas Ratio of 140%. Lo and behold, this past week US bank regulators seized IndyMac.

The ratios for the Canadian banks are not included in this article, but are provided below:

Texas ratio of big banks
2Q 2008 2Q 2006
Bank of Montreal 11.2% 5.2%
Toronto-Dominion Bank 2.9% 1.9%
Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce 7.1% 7.8%
National Bank of Canada 5.1% 5.3%
Royal Bank of Canada 7.8% 3.7%
Bank of Nova Scotia 9.7% 10.6%

Sometime maybe in mid-2009, the Canadian banks may be great buys.

Regards,
glenn
