LindyBill,

I am still trying to screw my courage up to going on a modified South Beach diet. No wheat or sugar.

Yup. I generally go on a stricter diet (regarding carbs) when I am a few pounds over my target weight, relax a bit when I am at my target. But there is more to one's diet than weight.

BTW, what does the South Beach diet say about fruit? I have just eaten too many cherries...

Joe

The difficulty is not in the diet. There are a lot of yummy and satisfying things you can still eat. Your taste buds won't suffer, at least not once you've gotten used to it. Really. I've been doing it for years. I'm eating no grains at all right now.

The problem is social. As a practical matter, your food consumption is restricted to home alone. Restaurants are a challenge. Parties are even worse.

So as you contemplate the switch, think about the social aspect. Your taste buds and stomach won't be as much of a problem as you anticipate.
