Bushies killed CAFE standards and cost us our economy. The fix was in from day one with Bush-Cheney and their cronies. In order to really-really screw us out of trillions they had to cheat to get into power in the first place, make sure we're wasting huge amounts of gasoline, cut back on refining, kill any clean energy movement, create an endless war in the middle east then gradually let the Enron type traders do their thing and jack up oil and gas prices to the moon. The result would be trillions in their greedy pockets, more devastation of our environment, and exactly what Eisenhower warned us about, a military-oil-industrial complex which basically owns our government, a form of oily corporate fascism which Hitler only began to realize. And always of course, more lies as excuses to invade any smaller country with oil reserves that didn't do what Exxon and Chevron wanted. Next stop, Iran and Venezuela.
