So in your particular case, if you were to put up a solar panel 15 years ago, it might have cost you $40,000 and it would generate some x Watts of power. If you were to do it now, it may cost you $20,000 and generate 2x Watts. If you do it 15 years from now, the cost may be $10,000 and output 4x Watts.

I hope those are not real numbers.
