OPEC could/would easilly offset any production increase from the U.S., no net difference in world supply, no difference in price. They can leave more in the ground, Oil Doesn't Spoil!

Well, the significance can easily be determined by a simple run of the numbers (which I've given an overview of). Again, it shouldn't be made into another partisan roadblock; I'm for more responsible drilling; I agree we have to balance our needs and the environment; the environmentalists should look at the macro view when deciding the impact of potential local damage. The people in the middle - balance between our needs and the overall health of the planet - have got to have a turn in picking the solutions.
