I don't have to read books about it. Nixon was widely hated. Tricky Dick was his nickname.

I didn't support Nixon myself. Though I couldn't vote for McGovern either.

"and I was surprised to find just how well Nixon polled at various points in his career, particularly from like 1970 until Watergate."

Nixon was very polarizing. He was smart, was good with policy and he understood the way the political game was played. But, like any character in a Greek tragedy, he had a fatal flaw. Well, two, actually. One, he believed in the imperial presidency. And two, he was out to destroy enemies, real or perceived. Smirk has both of these two, but he lacks the other qualities that Nixon had. So they don't stand out as much...

His base was what he called "The Silent Majority". And it took Watergate to dent that.

but I remember how unpopular Nixon was.

Actually, I was reading a book about the political environment from 1946-1974, and I was surprised to find just how well Nixon polled at various points in his career, particularly from like 1970 until Watergate.

Did you miss the part where he is saying HRC was the best thing since Haagen Dazs and it was a mistake to pick Obama over her? This is the same HRC they hated for years. lol.
