That's right. Barr is a Libertarian. I'd love it if the Libertarians would make more progress in our elections. They might actually be good for this country. Ron Paul, for example, sounded pretty intelligent to me during the debates...a hell of a lot more so than McCain. Barr also is big time into balancing the budget, for example. But make no mistake, the Republicans are the party of big government too. The only small government Republican in the last 30 years was Bush Sr. Reagan and Bush Jr both were big government, in particular HUGE military. The only difference with the Dems is they are for big government when it comes to DOMESTIC spending and they abide by the Pay As You Go rules to make sure it is all paid for through tax increases or spending cuts elsewhere. For example, Bill Clinton got us to surpluses. I detest the Clintons btw, but I have to give him credit for threatening to shut down the government to get a budget that was fiscally responsible. What Republican has ever done the same? Certainly not Bush Jr.

I was just having this conversation with my brother and we both agree that the two party system is killing this country. Neither party will work with the other anymore, despite the fact that they need to work together to get things done. We need to get back to America being number 1 and party affiliations being number 2. Maybe the Libertarians can become something, but I doubt it. Big money goes to the Dems and Reps, unfortunately.

Anyway, the biggest three reasons I'm voting for Obama are as follows:
1) a serious energy strategy to get us on the road to diversifying our energy sources
2) a plan to get us back on track to a balanced budget, by increasing taxes on folks who make more than $250K per year
3) a promise to get us out of Iraq

If he can accomplish those 3 goals in his first 4 years, then my vote for him was worth it in my book.

Is the bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac a "big government" response? Is there another reasonable alternative? I don't think so. Sometimes, "big government" is the only way to deal with a big economic problem.
