During the Great-Depression my Grandparents always told me that while it was safe in Los Angeles, it was dangerous to drive into the rural areas of California because you could be robbed and murdered due to the lack of police.

Farmers in rural California had to keep a 24 hour security vigil on their property with guns and yet were often killed.

I think these "survivalists", never having actually experienced these conditions, have this all backward and have been sold a bill of goods.

agreed. it requires a large family or a close knit group of friends to man the 8 hour shifts, for starters.
