It is interesting that none of our government officials recommend that people hold some percentage, 5-10%, of their assets in gold. This would be valuable insurance for US citizens to have, and in the interest of the prosperity of the nation, in addition to being in our own individual self-interest. Perversely, the government is not only destroying our financial system, they also take pains to delude the citizenry such that they avoid putting even a small part of their savings into a safe place, and probably manipulate the markets to make it more difficult for those that do choose to find a point of safety.

Thanks. Sometimes I have trouble remembering to think in terms of the "real" interest rate (inflation adjusted) and not just the official interest rate. Your post should help make that key point stick from now on...
